Inflation and Silver Price Calculator

"If only I had known, I would have done it long ago."
This is how most people react when they find out how much of their savings has already been eroded by inflation. It is almost unbelievable that, over a few decades, a hundred-koruna note has in real terms shrunk to just a few korunas.

Which would have been worth more to you: a hundred-koruna note in your cradle, or a silver bar?

We have prepared a simple calculator for you. With a single click, you will find out five figures at once:

  • What is the value today of a "hundred" from the year you were born?
  • How much value has the koruna already lost during your lifetime?
  • How high is the inflation that has been destroying your savings throughout your life?
  • If you had received a silver bar "in your cradle" instead of a hundred-koruna note, how much would you have earned by now?
  • What is the return on investment silver over your lifetime, once everything is adjusted for inflation?

Calculate how much value the Czech koruna has lost during your lifetime.
Calculate how much you could have gained instead by holding investment silver.

Enter your year of birth (1954-2024):

The range starts from the last currency reform in 1953, when people lost most of their savings by decree of the government of the time. The calculator therefore works for people born from 1954 onwards. Those born earlier lost practically all of their savings in bank accounts. Just ask those who remember it...

Investing in precious metals is a long-term matter. The fact that inflation destroys your savings becomes apparent over a horizon of decades. Likewise, the return on precious metals is a question of regular, long-term investing.

The results may surprise you. You will see that keeping your savings in a bank account is a battle lost in advance, where inflation unfortunately destroys most of the value.

That is why it is sensible to keep part of your assets in precious metals. The most sensible approach is to buy precious metals regularly, for example through the Silver Account or the Auringo gold savings account.

Note: From 1954 to 1989, the calculator uses an estimated year-on-year inflation rate of 3.3 percent; after 1989, it is based on year-on-year inflation according to data published by the Czech Statistical Office. The average silver price for the given year is used to calculate the development of the silver price.
